What to do if your images appear blurry or pixelated

Dotty Print: Image Quality, Blurry or Pixelated

Dotty print, or pixelation, occurs when images appear blurry or have visible dots, leading to a loss of clarity and detail in the final print. This issue often arises from using low-resolution images or designs that aren’t optimized for print.

The size of the print can significantly affect the quality of your images. For example, a small business card image may look great at its intended size, but when you enlarge that same image for a large sign, it can become pixelated and lose its sharpness. To avoid this, it’s essential to use artwork that is at least 300 DPI (dots per inch), which is the industry standard for high-quality printing.

To check if your image is 300 DPI, follow these steps:

  1. Open the image file in an editing program like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP.
  2. Navigate to the "Image" menu and select "Image Size" or "Properties."
  3. Look for the DPI setting or resolution in the dialog box. If it reads 300 DPI, you're good to go! If it’s lower, you may need to find a higher-resolution version of the image or adjust the size accordingly.

At Markful, we do check for 300 DPI images, and if your image does not meet the 300 DPI threshold, we will give you a warning in the editor. This way, you can make the necessary adjustments before finalizing your design.
